Hello from Steve Marchant

Wow! Time is flying and I’m just getting caught up from handling 3 seminars here in Cotacachi. My name is Steve Marchant and I’ve lived in Ecuador for 5 years, the last 15 months working and living in Cotacachi with Gary and Merri Scott and staying in El Meson de Las Flores the rustic, tranquil and newly renovated ‘hostería’ of the Scotts.

I love the idea of this blog and hope to be able to make frequent posts that show not only what is available here but how I feel about living here too. Life in Cotacachi is quite different to Quito where I lived before and living in Ecuador in general is very different to anywhere else I’ve lived.

Of course working with Gary and Merri Scott and meeting the dozens if not hundreds of readers who have come down this way means that I stay in touch with what is happening in the western world – and it’s really interesting to discuss the contrasts and similarities and hear what others think about Ecuador.

Often when I was travelling alone in far flung parts of the world I imagined showing what I knew of Alaska, Tahiti or the Queensland coast with visitor friends and as I slipped out of my daytime reveries I felt a tinge of regret that I’d never feel good by getting to share halibut fishing or scuba-diving atolls with my friends and they’d never get to discover the wonder I was experiencing. So now it’s a joy to be able to share Ecuador with all the visitors who come down here and if you haven’t yet come then I hope this blog will give you a flavour of what you are missing!
