I do not think that Aerogal is saying that the Boeing 737-200 aircraft is a brand new plane. I believe they are saying that the Boeing 737-200 aircraft they fly are new ones not used ones like many emerging country airlines use.

Many readers write to us worried about this so I think the spin is valid. However I have a friend arranging a meeting with the President of the airline (hopefully to get discounts or something special for our subscribers) later this month and I’ll ask.

Does anyone else have any air fare or airline experiences in Ecuador to share on this?

Steve’s comment:

I’m not a plane expert but I imagine that before Aerogal takes delivery of their new-for-them 737’s that they will have been completely refurbished and rechecked. I don’t know how old their 737s are but I believe there are many planes 30 years old still roaming our skies. Does the 737 have a good safety track record in the last 10 years or so? How do the aviation authorities decide when a plane is no longer fit to fly? I believe not all airlines are allowed to fly into the USA. If Aerogal recently got permission to do so I suppose they passed some pretty stringent tests including such things as pilot training, planes themselves and maintenance procedures they follow.

Do we have any experts out there who can comment?
