Cotacachi Medical Information – Alternative Treatments

Acupuncture meridians which are connected to and named after organs reach the skin at acupuncture points – these are biologically active points. The health of our organs is reflected in the activity/vitality of the meridian (energy channel) that runs to the organ. In turn the activity of the meridian is reflected by the sensitivity of the acupuncture points. Ah-hah … now I see where those needles come into play.

The activity of the various acupuncture points (and therefore the activity of the meridian and health of the related organ) is defined by the pain sensitivity at the place of the acupuncture point location. Doctor Vaca’s software uses complicated algorithms to measure pain applied to the acupuncture points on our toes and fingers using an infra-red emitting diode.
It’s really not painful at all. You just feel a warmth – then heat – and then a mild discomfort as it gets hotter. You shout “ya” which means ‘now’ (and is quicker and easier to say than “ahora”) and he clicks the mouse and your level of sensitivity for that acupuncture point gets transmitted to the software.

This is a good wake up call to get off the coffee!
My readings showed up a disturbing lack of functionality in the liver, probably attributable to too much coffee drinking and not enough exercise. The coffee I will only very reluctantly give up but living in Cotacachi there is no excuse not to get out in the freshest air you’ll encounter anywhere and walk the miles of country lanes that run out to little indigenous communities.
