Cotacachi real estate includes cheap rentals such as country houses for $150 per month.

Our friends Lee and Peg Carper have brought their two large dogs down here to Cotacachi so it’s essential for them to find a place with a little land.

Lee found this in his own by asking around in town. There is no such thing as a listing service in Cotacachi, … or not until I start one anyway! Lee entered a pharmacy and got talking to the owner. He let it be known in his very basic Spanish that he was looking for a place to live.

By the way, Lee learnt the basics on one of our Super Thinking - Super Spanish classes and the rest he continues to pick up by not being afraid to try and communicate.

The lady in the pharmacy has a cousin with this house. There were a couple of others Lee was looking at but he thought it would be rude to not accept such a great offer at such a cheap price.

The Cotacachi property is some 4 miles outside of Cotacachi and Lee and Peg catch the local bus in to town for 20 cents every day. The bus runs every 45 minutes but the catch to this cheap rental is that the bus is invariably full.

Drivers do often stop and offer lifts and a taxi into town costs $2. Still, Lee and Peg are considering giving up this country cottage because they want to also be closer to the dogs they are trying to help in Cotacachi. See www.ecuadorliving.com/2008/05/23/living-in-ecuador-community.html

So if $150/month for Cotacachi real estate … a cheap rental in the countryside outside Cotacachi seems attractive then do consider spending time in Cotacachi asking the locals where the bargains are. They do speak English sometimes and they are invariably friendly and eager to help.
