Ecuador Earthquake Update

We are updating Ecuador Living subscribers on the information that readers and contacts share about Ecuador earthquakes.

This reader, an American who has lived in Ecuador since the 1970s, shares his experiences with Ecuador earthquakes:

Gary,  I lived in Ecuador during the 80′s during which time there were several strong earthquakes. I specifically remember being in bed during one quake and on the 8th floor of a public building during another one. On the 8th floor people were fairly calm and quickly began joking about the new situation.  Driving through Quito the following days there was hardly any noticeable damage to the high rises.  There were a few cracks along some apartment buildings but appeared to be superficial as they were later quickly fixed.  The houses that had the main  problems were the ones built very inexpensively (low income) with no iron and only cement blocks.
