I am amazed that, with all the helpful information on living in Ecuador, no one has mentioned anything at all about health insurance (especially for retirees who cannot use Medicare in Ecuador). I know there are private hospitals in Quito (Metropolitano, for instance) but what are the costs to join? Does anybody know?
