One way to enhance the chances of living a long and healthy life is to reduce stress. One way to do that is to live in a low cost, beautiful place. Ecuador is such a place. Low cost? Believe me. You can live like a king for $2,000 a month. Beauty? Let the pictures below speak for themselves.

Yesterday morning, while on the current Import Export seminar, we were on an expedition investigating possibilities to export products made from Cape gooseberries.

We journeyed to the hills above Cotacachi to see a typical grower’s small holding, part of an operation receiving some international grants to export finished products such as trail mixes made up of dried Cape gooseberries.

Coming down a country path ….

we encountered an old indigenous fellow coming up the path …

Tired and laden down with his belongings and on his way home after a hard morning’s work in the fields

He took a simple delight in extending a morning greeting to each of us

and we in turn took extra delight from walking in the Ecuadorian countryside.

Not long after we were able to taste the Cape gooseberries ourselves. Cape gooseberries are another facet of an Ecuador healthy life because they are renowned for lowering your blood pressure.

This took the edge off our pre-lunch hunger and then in the afternoon we made our way to nearby Peguche the weavers village. Of course, an after lunch walk is always a good idea and the walk to Peguche shows the beauty of Ecuador. A walk like this every day can easily be part of a healthy life in Ecuador?

I see more beauty in one week in Ecuador and more opportunities for a healthy life than I ever saw living in Europe.

There is just one more Import Export course this year in October. But a feature of all our courses is that we get out into the Ecuadorian countryside and villages and this always shows me the beauty and healthy lifestyles of Ecuador.

Ecuador handicrafts can be found throughout Ecuador. Now I am down in Cuenca visiting a friend who has part retired here. No visit to Cuenca would be complete without a visit to one of the ceramics galleries here in town.

When it comes to personal taste in art I’m most drawn to paintings and ceramics. But whatever your taste Ecuador handicrafts have something for you. Be it paintings, sculptures, ceramics, woven art, jewelry, theater or even the cinema it’s here.
