One of the most frequent questions from  readers is the impact of the US dollar as Ecuador’s currency.  This is a good question for those on pensions. If the dollar’s purchasing power falls it may leave them short.

However a bigger risk, one that Ecuador is seeing now, is a stronger US dollar.  A Wall Street Journal video linked below shows how the strong dollar is great for the Colombia flower business.  A falling peso has meant the Colombian flower export market is seeing more international sales and more dollars per export.

The Colombia flower business is Ecuador’s main competitor and Ecuador’s flower business is a disaster.

The main exports of Ecuador are petroleum, bananas, cut flowers, shrimp, cacao, coffee, wood and fish.  All of these, except petroleum, are hurt by a strong US dollar.  When exports fall profits drop and taxes slow. When the government misses this money, they look elsewhere… maybe to expats to compensate.  Oops!

This is why we focus on helping our readers learn how to self publish so they can earn beyond wherever they live.

Whatever you want to do in business or self publishing, you probably need a website.   A key to success in a micro self publishing business today is focus.  The industry phrase is to reach and engage, but the reality is a bit more.  Success requires that you:

#1:  Capture a potential reader’s attention.

#2: Promise a benefit so the reader will give you time.

#3: Refine your focus so you know what the reader is looking for.

#4: Develop an intimate relationship with the reader.

#5: Offer the reader products and services that make the reader’s life better

A good SEO organized website accomplishes all of these goals.

Our webmaster, David Cross, recently conducted a webinar to help explain how to optimize a website for search engine success.  Due to many requests he is developing a webinar/training session – similar to the SEO webinar – that shows exactly how to create your own website, in WordPress, in just 90 minutes. What’s more, he has found a way that will allow him to do all the initial setup of your website at no additional cost to you.

For the last 27 years David has worked with companies large and small – IBM, Agora Publishing, AstraZeneca and many small business owners.  He has worked in 22 countries, and lived in six of them.

David’s clients span the globe and represent companies and charities both large and small. From corporate giants to small, one-woman businesses and everything from finance, healthcare, publishing, technology, real estate, veterinarians, alternative health centers and everything in between.

David is an essential part of our web based business and Myles Norin, CEO of Agora, Inc.  wrote:  “I have found David’s knowledge and experience unmatched in the industry. Without David’s expertise and guidance for the past 7 years, we would not be nearly as successful as we are.”

As Senior Internet Consultant to Agora Inc. in Baltimore, MD, he worked closely with Agora’s publishers and marketers and – over a 7-year period – helped to propel Agora’s online revenues from around $20 million to well over $300 million.
